Planning An Extreme Adventure Or Journey?
Equipping you with all you need to ensure you not only reach your desired goal but to fully enjoy the inspiration along the way. Feeling inspired having met and experienced your planned challenge, becomes life changing through to the core!
Thus encouraging you to challenge yourself further in life, feeling grounded in the knowledge that you can at least give it a go without the limiting fear of failure. We design specialised individual or group practices for your journey taking into consideration any health or injury issues working with you to optimise your particular outcome.
We will begin with looking at an adventure that includes high altitude.
Every year, unnecessary deaths occur from altitude sickness. At 3,500 metres above sea level 50% of travellers will feel unwell and at 4,300 metres almost all travellers will suffer from altitude sickness.
Altitude sickness occurs when we ascend too fast beginning usually above 2,500 metres.
To acclimatise, the body needs one or two days at static altitudes otherwise it may lead to fluid collecting in the brain (High Altitude Cerebral Oedema) or lungs (High Altitude Pulmonary Oedema) resulting in potentially fatal conditions!
Unfortunately we cannot predict who will and who won’t be affected.
Being aware of the signs and symptoms and any existing respiratory issues or unknown dysfunctional breathing patterns prior to departure can be dealt with adequately and referred appropriately.
Generally we can work with you if you present with an unknown dysfunctional breathing habit to improve and optimise respiratory function with efficient breathing patterns. Optimising the efficiency of our breath and utilising certain pranayama techniques has many benefits also. For example coping with a fearful moment, improving sleep especially when in unfamiliar environments, energising for that burst of energy or simply to relax and unwind after an exciting day.
Learning helpful mindfulness techniques in various situations may assist in the early detection of problems arising for yourself and others.
Being mindful of observing for early sings and symptoms of altitude sickness for example and taking the appropriate action to reduce the severity of the outcome. Mindful of the environment, culture and fellow travellers and the footprint you leave behind, is it desirable? Mindful of the fact you are all being challenged beyond your own comfort zone and the possibility of not having any sensitivity towards another under stress.

How Do You Meditate?
Various meditation methods add further tools to assist you in your transition from your comfort zone and coping abilities.
Moving meditation when the trail is long and difficult, can speed the passage of time and bring you into the present moment to be inspired with what surrounds you rather than only focusing on the destination for that day.
Waking to find your motivation at its lowest point and needing that extra boost, a suitable meditation and pranayama practise may be all you need to be inspired and re-energised to continue unimpeded. With meditation and the confidence gained utilising this tool you will feel empowered to finish your journey and begin the process of planning the next.
We have only touched on a few of the benefits and uses Yoga Therapy can assist you with in your extraordinary life changing adventure, so keep watching this space, more to follow.
